GoHighLevel snapshots, explained
A snapshot is a reusable template of a HighLevel sub-account’s setup. It copies things like workflows, funnels, calendars, forms and custom fields into another sub-account, but not contacts, conversations or integrations. Agencies use snapshots to launch similar client accounts quickly. Beginners should learn the basics before relying on one.

What is a snapshot in plain English?
Imagine you’ve set up one client perfectly: the booking calendar, the follow-up texts, the review requests, the landing page. A snapshot is a saved copy of that setup, minus the client’s actual customers and messages, that you can stamp into the next client’s account. HighLevel’s own snapshots overview describes it as a reusable template capturing selected configuration assets from a sub-account.
One detail that surprises people: you don’t build a snapshot from scratch. You build a real sub-account first, then create the snapshot from it.
What does a snapshot copy, and what doesn’t it?
| Copies (examples) | Does not copy (examples) |
|---|---|
| Workflows | Contacts |
| Funnels and websites | Appointments |
| Calendars | Conversations and message history |
| Forms and surveys | Reputation data |
| Email templates and campaigns | Stripe connections |
| Custom fields and values | Integrations and third-party connections |
| Pipelines | Phone numbers assigned to Voice AI agents |
| Dashboards |
So after loading a snapshot, you still need to connect payments, phone numbers and other integrations in the new account yourself.
What can you do with a snapshot?
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Create | Capture assets from a source sub-account you’ve already built. |
| Load | Apply a snapshot’s assets to an existing sub-account. |
| Create sub-account from snapshot | Start a new sub-account with the setup preloaded. |
| Share / import | Send a snapshot to another agency, or add one you were sent to your library. |
| Refresh / push updates | Update the snapshot after changes and push selected updates to linked sub-accounts. |
Who actually needs snapshots?
Mostly agencies. If you set up the same kind of system for many clients (say, ten dental practices), a snapshot turns hours of repeated setup into a few clicks, and refreshing it can push improvements to every linked account. Starter includes 3 sub-accounts, so even small agencies can use them.
If you run one business, a snapshot’s main value is as a head start: a pre-built setup you then adjust. That can help, but only if you understand what it built.
Should I buy a snapshot from someone?
Lots of people sell snapshots, often with big promises. Before you buy one, ask:
- Can I see exactly what’s inside? A list of workflows, pages and fields, not just screenshots of results.
- Is it current? HighLevel changes often; ask when it was last updated.
- Does it fit my business? An industry snapshot built for another country or trade may need heavy changes.
- Will I understand it? If not, you’ll be stuck the first time something breaks.
- Is it sold with income claims? Be wary. A template can’t guarantee results.
I don’t sell snapshots, and I don’t rank sellers.
What snapshot guides are coming?
Step-by-step guides to creating and importing a snapshot are planned, and will be published with real screenshots. Until then, HighLevel’s guides cover creating a snapshot and loading one into an existing sub-account.
Frequently asked questions
What is a GoHighLevel snapshot?
A reusable template that captures a sub-account’s setup, such as workflows, funnels, calendars, forms and custom fields, so it can be copied into another sub-account. It copies configuration, not customer data.
Do snapshots copy contacts?
No. According to HighLevel’s documentation, contacts, appointments, conversations and integrations do not transfer with a snapshot.
Should a beginner buy a snapshot?
Usually not straight away. A snapshot can save setup time, but if you do not understand the basics you will struggle to adjust or fix what it builds. Learn the fundamentals first, then decide.
Can a single business use snapshots?
They can, but snapshots mainly help agencies that repeat the same setup for many clients. A single business with one sub-account gets less benefit.
